Respect For Elders Essay
“A person who is disrespectful will never get respect for himself,” as the saying goes, is true. Respect for Elder people in culture is one of the most important things. This is very clear among the Japanese, who are thought to be one of the world’s wealthiest and most developed countries. Respect for elders is one of the strongest pillars that have helped build up this small island country. They took the best parts of the West and the best parts of the East and put them together in a smooth way. Even though they used the latest technology from the West, they didn’t give up any of their own customs.
India also has an old culture where respect for older people is very important. There are still a lot of joint families led by an elder who may be in his nineties. Even though he hasn’t been in charge of the family for a long time, every child and grandchild knows that he is in charge. If a father teaches his son to respect his grandfather, he can be sure that his grandchildren will also respect him.
Respect is not just something that should be shown inside the house. Elders should be respected everywhere, including at school, college, and in public places.
There are a lot of teens today who think it’s cool to be rude. They believe that being rude and aggressive is smart. They argue back when they are told something wrong, push past elder people walking slowly, and never even think about helping an older person.
We don’t think any of this is good or polite, but we also don’t believe in strict rules. The younger generation should respect the older people, but the older people should also act with respect. They should show how things should be done. Respect can’t be asked for, though. It can only be told.
