What is the full form of DSP?

DSP full form is “Deputy Superintendent of Police.” DSP is a rank of a police officer in the Indian police force. DSP is a state police representative who directs state police officers. This officer’s rank symbol is a national symbol on the shoulder strap above one star.

DSP is comparable to ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) and, per state government regulations, may be promoted to IPS after a few years of service. Annually, examinations are administered to directly appoint police forces to the DSP level. Inspectors are frequently promoted to DSP after the aforementioned service years.

Eligibility requirements for DSP:

  • Applicants must be residents of India.
  • All candidates must possess a diploma from a recognized board or educational institution.
  • The candidate must be between 21 and 30 years of age. The upper age limit is reduced by five years for SC/ST applicants.
  • The minimum height requirement for male applicants is 168 centimeters and for female applicants, it is 155 centimeters.
  • The minimum chest size expected for men is 84 centimeters, with a maximum expansion of 5 centimeters.
  • To be promoted to DSP in the state police, one must hold a higher rank in the service and meet the necessary qualifications.

Method of selection

The candidate who wishes to become a DSP is required to take the examination administered by the State Public Service Commission. Before being assigned as DSPs, individuals who pass this exam must complete probationary training. The following are the stages required to become a DSP.

  • Preliminary and Main Written Examination.
  • PET (Physical efficiency test).
  • Medical test and interview.
