The JEE examination comprises of two separate examinations.

  • JEE Main
  • JEE Advanced

Formerly, the AIEEE exam was required for admission to engineering institutes in India; it has been replaced by the JEE-Main exam, while IIT-JEE has become the JEE-Advanced exam. Candidates who pass the JEE Main test will be eligible to take the JEE Advanced Test.

JEE Eligibility Criteria

For JEE Main Test

  • Class 12 (CBSE, ISC board, etc.) scores of at least 75% are required to take this examination.
  • Otherwise, children must score in the top 20 percent on the Class 12 examination administered by their committee.
  • Class 12 board exam scores of at least 65% are required for SC and ST aspirants to qualify.

For JEE Advance Test

  • To be eligible for JEE Advanced, a student must receive a rank of fewer than 2,500,000 in the JEE Main examination.
  • Only those individuals would have the opportunity to enroll in B.Tech. programs at IIT institutions.

About JEE

  • JEE consists of two examinations: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced is recognized as one of the most difficult undergraduate entrance examinations.
  • JEE Main is the qualifying exam that enables students to take the JEE advanced test and ultimately leads to enrolment in NITs, IITs, etc.
  • The JEE Main examination is administered twice each year, and the number of admission attempts in a given academic session is presumed to be one. Applicants may choose one or both papers. The test is administered online.
  • The exam is three hours long, comprises of three disciplines, and contains 30 MCQs (multiple-choice questions) pertaining to Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. For incorrect answers, a negative score is assigned.
  • Paper 1 is for enrollment in BE and B.Tech programs, Paper 2 is for enrollment in B.Arch programs, and Paper 3 is for B.Planning programs.
  • The applicants can take the JEE Main exam for three consecutive years, but only two consecutive years for the JEE Advanced exams.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) determines the minimum qualifying score for the JEE main exam, which varies per category, including General, OBC, SC & ST, and PWD.
