What is the Full form of PWD?
The PWD full form is the Public Works Department. PWD is the Indian government organization responsible for the construction and maintenance of public services such as government construction, highways, bridges, public transportation, and drinking water supplies, among others. The Department of Public Works is the major institution in India responsible for all public service activities.
Each state has a unique PWD, with geographically dispersed Divisions, Subdivisions, and Units. Multiple states, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Mizoram, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh, appear to have their own PWD. In all countries, the departments have the same responsibilities.

Responsibilities of PWD
- The PWD is also responsible for supplying the city with clean drinking water and repairing the broken water pipeline.
- Moreover, if any damage occurs to government schools, roads, or hospitals, PWD will reconstruct them.
- It has essentially identical functions and obligations in each state, such as designing and constructing all government-led public projects, constructing and developing highways, providing security, and road and highway services, maintaining and modernizing government buildings, etc.
- A portion of this research was previously conducted in India by the military. In the middle of the nineteenth century, the responsibility for public works was eventually transferred to a distinct division of the Indian Civil Service.
