What is the full form of the RFID?

RFID full form is Radio Frequency Identification. It is an automated method of identification that employs non-contact wireless radio frequency signals in which information is digitally embedded in RFID tags or smart labels and can be decoded by the reader using radio signals. Data transmission occurs between such a reader and a detectable and monitorable moving object.

As information analyzed from tags is stored in a database, RFID can be assumed to be equivalent to barcodes, or you can assert that the system that collects the label’s data also stores data in the database.

Structure of the RFID system

RFID System consists of RFID Reader and RFID Tags.

RFID Reader

It is a system consisting of one or more antennas used to generate radio signals and receive signals from the RFID Tag in order to communicate with the RFID Tag. As the RFID tag is interrogated, the RFID reader is often referred to as the interrogator.

RFID Tags

A circuit integrated is used for data storage and processing.

The antenna is used for signal transmission and reception.

The active tag has its own power source and a reading range of approximately 100 feet.

A passive tag lacks its own power source; a reader provides power inductively to passive tags. The most common tags are passive tags with a reading range of approximately 30 feet.

Types of RFID

There are primarily two types of RFID: and

  • Based on frequency and antenna, Near Field RFID has a thin, omnidirectional reader antenna and an approximate 5 mm to 10 cm tag reading range.
  • Far-Field RFID employs a collection of resonant, directional antennas and tags with a range exceeding 22.1 meters.
