What Is the Full Form of NET?

The NET full form is National Eligibility Test. NET is an important national entrance examination for postgraduates who wish to pursue a Ph.D. or a career as a teacher in India (UGC NET or NTA-UGC-NET). It is a test used to evaluate eligibility for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Assistant Professor positions in Indian institutions and colleges.

  • NET is administered by the UGC (University Grants Commission). UGC administers this test throughout India.
  • The first test was conducted in 1989, and it has been conducted twice a year since then.
  • UGC CSIR NET examines scientific disciplines. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research is in question.
  • The CBSE administered the UGC NET test until July 2018, but beginning in December 2018, the UGC National Eligibility Test will be administered by the NTA (National Testing Agency).
  • The primary purpose of this examination is to classify candidates for university lectureships and the Junior Research Fellowship.
