A brief history of IB
- The IB was founded in 1887 and was formerly known as the Central Special Branch. It is one of the world’s oldest intelligence organizations.
- In 1968, it was divided into two divisions: the “Research and Analysis Wing,” which was responsible for foreign intelligence, and the IB, which was primarily responsible for internal intelligence and security.
Main responsibilities of IB

- IB facilitates the exchange of intelligence information between the police and other Indian intelligence services.
