Various DSLR elements

These are the primary components of digital single-lens reflex cameras:

  1. Lens
  2. Shutter
  3. Reflex mirror
  4. Condenser lens
  5. Pentaprism
  6. Viewfinder
  7. Mate focusing mirror
  8. Image sensor

DSLR working principles

  • Light enters the camera through the prism and strikes the reflex mirror.
  • The reflex mirror reflects light vertically upwards to the focusing screen.
  • Light travels through the focusing display and reaches the pentaprism glass block.
  • The pentaprism directs light to the viewfinder after focusing it with two distinct mirrors.
  • The viewfinder provides a live image preview to the viewer.
  • The reflex mirror now flips upward when the shutter button is pressed, preventing the vertical light channel from directing light directly into the image sensor.
  • The shutter will then open, allowing light to reach the picture sensor.
