What is the full form of CID?

The CID full form is the Crime Investigation Department. CID is a crime-investigating section of the Indian State Police. It is the police department division led by the ADG (Additional Police Director General). The CID headquarters is headquartered in Pune, and the Indian government and DGP assign individual cases to the Government (Director General of Police). In 1902, the British government created CID in relation to the Polic Commission in order to maintain social order. There are a variety of ranks among the department’s uniformed police officers, who typically work in civilian attire. These officers are known as CID or Detectives.

The Police Department was divided into special units, Crime branch CID (CB-CID) divisions, and CID in 1929. The ADGP (Additional Director General of Police) and IGP (Inspector General of Police) oversee the Crime branch CID, which is a specialized CID agency (Inspector-General of Police). This section investigates all significant criminal offenses and cases referred by the High Court or state administration.

Operation of CID

CID is primarily responsible for investigating all types of unsolved criminal cases. It gathers evidence and information for fraud and criminal cases, apprehends offenders, and ultimately delivers the suspect’s evidence to the court.

CID Eligibility Criteria

  • The nominee must be a resident of India.
  • A degree from a reputable college is the bare minimum qualification required to join the CID as an officer or sub-inspector.
  • Entry into CID as a constable requires a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • A candidate must also pass the Indian Civil Services Examination.
  • In addition, the candidate must possess a keen eye, an exceptional memory, sound character judgment, and the capacity to manage a team.
