The AIR full form is All India Radio. Since 1956, AIR has been referred to as Akashvani. It is the largest public radio station in India and a subsidiary of Prasar Bharti. History of AIR
- India began radio broadcasting in 1923.
- In June 1923, Bombay’s Radio Club conducted the country’s first broadcast.
- After a period of five months, the Calcutta Radio Club is established.
- On July 23, 1927, IBC (Indian Broadcasting Company) was created.
- In April 1930, the Indian Broadcasting Service under the Industries & Labor Division resumed its industrial duty.
- The subsequent month saw the formation of a private radio station known as Akashvani Mysore.
- On June 8, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became AIR.
