What is the Full form of DRDO?
The DRDO full form is the Defence Research and Development Organization. DRDO is the Indian government body responsible for military research and development. In 1958, the DSO (Defense Science Organization) merged with the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production to form the TDA. Its headquarters are located in New Delhi, which is administered by the Indian Government’s Ministry of Defense.

Principal missions of DRDO
- The mission of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is to increase self-reliance in Defense Systems and to focus heavily on development and design.
- It is resulting in the manufacturing of weapons tools and gadgets of world-class quality in accordance with the quantity and quality standards established by the three services, respectively. The Navy, Army, and Air Force are the three military branches.
- DRDO is a vast network of laboratories devoted to the development of defensive technology and numerous areas of military technology, including combat vehicles, missiles, armaments, aeronautics, sensors, advanced computing and & Simulation, instrumentation, computer systems, unique materials, training, naval system, information systems, agriculture & life sciences.
Key DRDO activities

- DRDO Conducts scientific research and development in specialized areas pertinent to national security.
- Direct and administer the Department’s offices, laboratories, buildings, programs, and services.
- Participate in the acquisition and evaluation of all proposed weapon systems and associated technologies for purchase by the Department of Defence.
- Institutions, universities, etc. receive economic and other technical support. For the research and training of individuals in fields of science and engineering related to national security.
