What is the Full form of DDT?

The DDT full form is Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane. DDT is an insecticide that is used in farming. The United States stopped using DDT in 1972, but some other countries still use it. In the past, DDT was often used to get rid of lice. It is also used to kill mosquitoes outside of the United States that spread malaria. DDT and its related chemicals stay around for a long time in the air and in the bodies of animals.

  • It is made naturally when chloral (CCl3CHO) and chlorobenzene (C6H5Cl) react in the presence of sulphuric acid (H2SO4).
  • If DDT is sprayed on plants, insects that live on the crops will be exposed to it. It hurts the bug’s nerves, which leads to death in the long run.
